Born on 3 August 1985, Sonny Bill Williams is a 36-year-old New Zealand heavyweight boxer, and a former professional rugby league and rugby union player.
Williams was born on August 3, 1985, in Auckland, New Zealand, to a Samoan father, Ioane (“John”) Williams, and a half-New Zealander, half-Australian mother, Lee Woolsey.
John Arthur, his older brother, and Niall and Denise, his younger twin sisters, are his siblings.
Williams grew up in a statehouse in the Auckland neighborhood of Mount Albert with a working-class family.
Williams subsequently stated that the “driving motivation” in his desire to play professional rugby league was to “buy my mother a house,” explaining his difficult family history.
He went to Owairaka School, Wesley Intermediate, and Mount Albert Grammar School, among others.
He was described as a “small, skinny white kid” who was “painfully shy” as a child, as well as “a freakish sporting talent, a competitive sprinter, a champion high jumper and cross country runner, and the kid who played footy in teams a couple of age divisions above, to make things more equitable.”
Williams gave up athletics when he was approximately twelve years old, despite being predicted to have a bright career in the sport.
Despite the fact that his father was a successful rugby league player, Williams claims that it was his mother who first introduced him to the sport.
