Naomi Judd, who was born on January 11, 1946, in Ashland, Kentucky, gave birth to her daughter Wynonna when she was 18 years old.
According to a PBS biography, she gave birth to her daughter Ashley and enrolled in nursing school in California before returning to Kentucky and eventually Nashville with her family, where she and Wynonna won a recording contract as the country duo The Judds.
The women won five Grammys in total, including this one for best country performance by a duo or group with vocals in 1986.
Naomi brought her daughters to the Academy of Country Music Awards in 1987, when she and Wynonna earned their fourth of seven top vocal pair awards.
Naomi told AARP the Magazine in 2007, “The good news is, I raised two incredibly creative, strong-willed, expressive, passionate ladies.”
On April 11, 2022, Naomi made her first televised appearance in 20 years with Wynonna at the CMT Music Awards.
The duo performed “Love Can Build a Bridge” with a choir of gospel singers outside the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, culminating in a touching family moment. They announced a fall arena tour on the same day.
Wynonna and Ashley, however, announced their mother’s death on April 30. The singer had committed suicide
