George Springer is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Houston Astros from 2014 to 2020.
Springer was drafted by the Astros in the first round of the 2011 MLB draft (11th overall). For the Houston Astros, he made his MLB debut in 2014. Springer has largely played right field, but he’s also seen action in the center of the field as well. Springer is of Puerto Rican and Panamanian heritage and a native of New Britain, Connecticut.
During his time at the University of Connecticut, Springer was a two-time Big East Conference Baseball Player of the Year and a First Team All-American selection. In 2017, Springer was an All-Star in Major League Baseball, won the Silver Slugger Award, and won the World Series.
Additionally, he was voted the 2017 World Series MVP after hitting a record-tying five home runs (Reggie Jackson and Chase Utley did the feat in 1977 and 2009, respectively) as the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games. For the second year running, he was voted an All-Star.
