Seth William Brown (born July 13, 1992) is a Major League Baseball outfielder and first baseman for the Oakland Athletics. In 2019, he made his MLB debut.
Brown was chosen in the 19th round (578th overall) of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics.
He was assigned to the Rookie League Arizona League Athletics after signing with the franchise, and after six games, he was promoted to the Vermont Lake Monsters of the Class A Short Season New York–Penn League.
He hit.289 with 19 doubles, three home runs, 35 RBIs, and 32 runs scored and was awarded the Lake Monsters’ team MVP after appearing in the New York–Penn League All-Star Game.
He skipped Class A and started the 2016 season with the Stockton Ports of Class A-Advanced, hitting.241 with eight home runs and 53 RBIs. The next season, he was moved to the Ports and saw a significant boost in his offensive output.
Brown was selected a California League All-Star and Minor League Baseball’s Player of the Month for August, finishing the season with a.270 batting average and leading the California League with 30 home runs and 109 RBIs.
Brown batted.283 with 14 home runs and 90 RBIs for the AA Midland RockHounds last season.
At the time of his promotion to the Major Leagues, he was batting.297 with 37 home runs for the AAA Las Vegas Aviators, which was second in the Pacific Coast League.
Brown’s contract was selected by the Athletics on August 26, 2019. He made his major league debut that night against the Kansas City Royals, hitting his first career hit, a single off Jorge López, and going 2-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored in the A’s 19-4 victory.
In his first Major League season, he batted.293 with eight doubles, two triples, 13 RBIs, and 11 runs scored in 26 games (75 at-bats).
Brown only appeared in seven games for the team in 2020, going hitless in five plate appearances. In 2021, he had his actual rookie season, hitting.214/.274/.480 in 111 games with 20 home runs and 48 RBIs.
