Billy Bingham was born William Laurence Bingham. He was a former footballer as well as a football manager. He was born in Belfast in the UK on August 5, 1931.
Billy had his primary education at Elmgrove Primary School. He played football for the school’s football team and was the captain. Billy made his professional debut with the Glentoran football club where he was paid £6 per week.
Billy left the Glens and played for the Sunderland Association Football Club from 1950 to 1958. The Sunderlands paid him £8,000. Billy also learned shipbuilding at the Sunderland shipyards whiles with the team.
After he left Sunderland he joined Luton Town for two years and then left to join Everton where he was paid a fee of £15,000. The Port Vale football club signed him in August 1963. He spent two years and then retired from playing football.
Billy later left for Southport on a free transfer in April 1965 to become the club’s trainer coach.
