Steven Okert is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for the San Francisco Giants.
Okert received his high school diploma from Rowlett High School, which is located in Rowlett, Texas. After attending Grayson County College and being selected in the 43rd round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, Okert ultimately decided not to sign with the team and went back to Grayson.
After that, the Milwaukee Brewers selected him in the 33rd round of the 2011 Draft; however, he did not sign with the team and instead enrolled at the University of Oklahoma.
In the one and only season that he pitched for the Sooners, he had 30 appearances, including five starts, and finished with a record of 9-8, 3.07 earned run average (ERA), and 78 strikeouts.
After that, in the fourth round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft, Okert was selected by the San Francisco Giants to join their organization.
During that season, he made his debut in the professional ranks with the Arizona League Giants and also participated in games with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. In 28 2/3 innings, he pitched with a 2.20 earned run average.
