Steven Okert is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for the San Francisco Giants.

Rowlett High School in Rowlett, Texas, is where Okert received his high school diploma. Grayson County College’s Okert was selected in the 43rd round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, but he declined to sign and returned to Grayson.

The Brewers selected him again in the 2011 Draft in the 33rd round, but he declined to sign and instead enrolled at the University of Oklahoma instead.



He pitched in 30 games with five starts for the Sooners in his sole season, going 9–8 with a 3.07 ERA and 78 strikeouts. The San Francisco Giants selected Okert in the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft in the fourth round.

For Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and the Arizona League Giants, he made his professional debut that season. In 28+23 innings, he had a 2.20 earned run average.

A 2.97 earned run average and 59 strikeouts in 60+2/3 innings were Okert’s stats for the Augusta GreenJackets in 2013. It was with the San Jose Giants that he began the year in 2014.
