Payton Henry is an American professional baseball catcher for the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021.
Henry went to high school in the town of Pleasant Grove, Utah, which is called Pleasant Grove High School. After making a prior commitment to play college baseball at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he then changed his mind and made a subsequent commitment to play college baseball at Brigham Young University.
In 2015, he finished his junior year with a batting average of.527, nine home runs, and the honor of being awarded the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Utah.
As a senior in 2016, he earned Utah Gatorade Player of the Year honors for the second season in a row by batting.519 with seven home runs and pitching to a 2.91 ERA on the mound. In addition, he had a 2.91 earned run average on the mound.
Following the conclusion of the season, he was chosen by the Milwaukee Brewers in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball draft in the year 2016. The Brewers paid him $550,000 to sign with the team.
