Elizabeth Alice MacGraw, professionally known as Ali MacGraw is one of the most famous actresses in the United States of America. She is also an activist. Her role in the film Goodbye, Columbus brought her to the limelight. She even won the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer from the film.

She was born on April 1, 1939, in Pound Ridge, New York in the USA to Frances Klein MacGraw and Richard MacGraw. She had her formal education at Rosemary Hall in Greenwich, Connecticut and later at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. In 1960, she worked at Harper’s Bazaar magazine as a photographic assistant to fashion maven Diana Vreeland for six years.

That year, she also worked at Vogue magazine as a fashion model a photographer’s stylist and as an interior decorator. She made her acting debut in television commercials. She started gaining a lot of attention when she starred in the film, Love Story in 1970 which was one of the highest-grossing films in U.S. history.

Following the release of the movie, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance and she was celebrated on the cover of Time magazine. Aside from e being an actress, Ali MacGraw is also a U.S. Ambassador for animal welfare charity Animals, Asia. She has been an animal rights advocate throughout her life and she received the Humane Education Award from Animal Protection of New Mexico for speaking out about animal issues.
