Elizabeth Alice MacGraw is a well-known American actress and activist. She was born on April 1st, 1939. She first came to the public’s attention with her performance in the film Goodbye, Columbus (1969),

for which she was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Newcomer – Most Promising. After that, she became a star in the critically acclaimed action movie The Getaway (1972).

The daughter of the commercial painters Frances (née Klein; 1901-1980) and Richard MacGraw, MacGraw was born in Pound Ridge, New York.

Her mother, an artist who taught in Paris before relocating to Greenwich Village, was regarded as a “pioneer.” She called her father “aggressive”; he fled to the sea when he was 16 and went to Munich to study painting.

As a photographer’s assistant to Diana Vreeland, MacGraw worked at Harper’s Bazaar for six years beginning in 1960.   She was a fashion model and a photographer’s stylist for Vogue magazine. Interior design is another career path for her.
