Caitlin Hochul is the daughter of Kathy Hochul, the 57th governor of New York who has held the position since August 24, 2021. Kathy is an American politician and attorney. In addition to being the first female governor of New York since the 1930s, she is also the first from upstate New York. She belongs to the Democratic Party as well.

She was born in Buffalo, New York, on August 27, 1958. Prior to starting her political career while still in college, she received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School in 1980 and a Juris Doctor from the Catholic University Columbus School of Law in 1984.

After previously serving on the Hamburg city board and as the deputy county clerk, Hochul was appointed Erie County Clerk in 2007. She won re-election in 2010 and will now hold the position of Erie County clerk for another full term.

Hochul won a four-candidate special election for the 26th congressional district of New York in May 2011, filling the vacancy left by the resignation of the district’s previous representative Chris Lee. Hochul was the district’s first Democrat in forty years. She served as a representative for the United States from 2011 to 2013. For a full term in 2022, she is up against Republican nominee and U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin.
