Cal Quantrill is a Canadian professional baseball pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the San Diego Padres.

Quantrill was considered one of the best available talents in the 2016 MLB draft. The San Diego Padres selected him as the eighth overall pick in the draft. The Arizona Padres have signed Quantrill to a minor league contract.

Tri-City Dust Devils promoted him in August, and then Fort Wayne TinCaps in September. In 12 starts for three different organizations, he went 0–5 with a 5.11 ERA.



During the offseason, Quantrill threw two innings of relief in the San Diego Padres Futures Game, striking out four. This year, Quantrill played for both teams, with a combined 7–10 record with a 3.80 earned run average (ERA) in 22 starts.

His first stop in 2018 was San Antonio. Quantrill made his debut with the Padres’ Triple-A affiliate, the El Paso Chihuahuas, on August 6.

He had a 9–6 record with a 4.80 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP in 28 appearances between San Antonio and El Paso. El Paso was where he started the new year.
