Casey A. Mize (born May 1, 1997) is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Detroit Tigers. In the 2018 MLB draft, the Tigers picked him with the first overall choice. He was a member of the Auburn Tigers baseball team in college.
Mize was taken first overall in the 2018 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers. Mize inked a $7.5 million signing bonus with the Tigers on June 25, 2018. He made his professional debut with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League’s Gulf Coast Tigers.
He was promoted to the Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League after one start. Mize was shut down for the rest of the season owing to an innings limit after posting a combined 0–1 record with a 3.95 ERA in five starts for both teams.
Mize started the Tigers’ 2022 season as the team’s No. 2 starter. Mize was put on the 10-day disabled list by the Tigers on April 15 due to a right elbow strain.
