Richard Wagner, CBS Richard Wagner Wife

Richard Wagner passed just recently. His wife, Donna Lewis-Wagner, confirmed the sad news to Deadline that the veteran CBS News correspondent has died at the age of 85.

Wagner began his career at CBS News in 1964 and spent time in Saigon as one of the correspondents covering the Vietnam War at a period when the military had yet to determine the limitations of access to operations.

Throughout his illustrious career, which spanned more than three decades, the reporter was enormously popular with viewers.

Wagner became a reliable voice for the United States when it came to what was going on in the country and overseas, arguably best known for his coverage of the Vietnam War.

According to Ad Week, he also reported from 50 states over his career, as well as traveling around 50 countries to cover breaking news, while based in cities such as London, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, and Saigon.

Wagner appeared on “CBS Evening News” and CBS News, where he became the network’s first Health and Science correspondent, before leaving the network in 1993.

He departed his post after 29 years after the network decided not to renew his contract, according to the Washington Post, but had switched his attention to CBS Radio in the years preceding the decision.
