And today’s awful news shook Greece to its core. The 19-year-old was driving when his Ford Focus ST lost control on a bridge in Nea Ionia, north of Athens, according to national media.

The vehicle slammed through the protective barriers on the bridge. Takidellis was killed when the plane crashed in mid-air and flipped upside down. Images from the tragic aftermath showed shocked rescue responders surrounding the mangled car.

And it was later found that a passenger, a 21-year-old man, had somehow survived the accident with serious injuries. Takidellis, who drove for Yacar Sport, has since won accolades.

The motor sensation won the Panhellenic Cross Car Championship EKO Racing Dirt Games only a year ago. His most recent race was at the FIA Rally Star event in Germany in February.

In a touching message, the Greek Motor Sports Association conveyed its sympathies. “Good racing on the heavenly courses, Constantine,” it said.

“ASMA expresses its heartfelt condolences to his family.” “Perhaps he should be the last asphalt martyr.”
