Dennis Duane “D. J.” Reed Jr (born November 11, 1996) is an American football cornerback for the New York Jets of the National Football League.
In the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected him from Kansas State, where he played college football.
The San Francisco 49ers selected Reed in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Reed made it to Super Bowl LIV in his second season, but the 49ers fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 31–20.
He was placed on the active/non-football injury list at the start of training camp on July 28, 2020, and waived from the list with a non-football injury designation on August 4, 2020.
Reed was taken off waivers by the Seattle Seahawks on August 5, 2020. He was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list at the start of the regular season on September 5, 2020, before being activated on October 31, 2020.
He filled Quinton Dunbar’s spot at the right cornerback after the latter’s injury. During a Week 8 victory over the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 37-27, Reed made his first career interception.
In a 20-15 victory over the Washington Football Team in Week 15, he recorded a second interception. Due to his strong play, Reed retained his starting position for the rest of the season, even when Dunbar was healthy.
On March 17, 2022, Reed signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the New York Jets.
