Daniel Bard is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Boston Red Sox from 2009 to 2013.

Bard went to Charlotte Christian School and subsequently the University of North Carolina, where he played baseball in college. Baseballamerica.com named Bard the nation’s best freshman pitcher and Freshman All-America at the halfway of the 2004 season.

Bard was chosen to the Baseball America All-Freshman second team and a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American as a result of his season’s accomplishments.

He was named ACC freshman of the year and a first-team all-conference honoree in the Atlantic Coast Conference. With a 3.88 earned run average (ERA) in 16 appearances, Bard matched North Carolina’s freshman baseball record of eight victories.

Bard was chosen a first-team All-American by Baseball America and a third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for the 2005 season.

In 16 starts, Bard was 7-5 with a 4.22 ERA. and had a.219 opponents batting average, good for third place in the ACC. The Roger Clemens Award watch list included him.
