Daniel Bard is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Prior to that, he was a player for the Boston Red Sox from 2009 to 2013. In 2011, Bard established a new Red Sox team record by pitching 25 straight innings without allowing a run. His highest speed pitch reached 102 miles per hour (164 kilometers per hour).
In the years that followed, Bard struggled to maintain command of his pitches, which ultimately led to the derailment of his playing career.
After pitching in a total of only two major league games in 2013, he went on to play for a number of lower league teams until calling it quits in 2017 to become a player mentor.
After regaining control of his addiction in 2020, Bard made his comeback as a player, joined the Rockies’ Major League Baseball team, and went on to win the National League Comeback Player of the Year Award in his role as the team’s closing pitcher.
