Daniel Jacob Radcliffe (born July 23, 1989) is a well-known English actor. He is most recognized for his portrayal of Harry Potter in the Harry Potter film series, for which he has garnered several honors and nominations.

Radcliffe made his feature film debut in The Tailor of Panama at the age of 10 in the BBC One television drama David Copperfield (1999).

He appeared in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone the same year. Over the next decade, he reprised his role as Harry Potter in seven sequels, concluding in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. (2011).



During this time, he rose to become one of the world’s highest-paid performers, gaining global renown, popularity, and critical acclaim.

Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born in Hammersmith, London, England, at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital. Marcia Jeannine Gresham (née Jacobson and literary agent Alan George Radcliffe on July 23, 1989.

His Jewish mother was born in South Africa and descended from Jewish immigrants from Germany, Lithuania, Poland, and Russia, and was reared in Westcliff-on-Sea, England.

His Northern Irish father was reared in Banbridge in a “very working-class” Protestant home.  In the BBC genealogy programme Who Do You Think You Are? In 2019, he researched both sides of his family history.

Radcliffe’s parents had both played the role of children. His mother worked as a casting agent on BBC shows such as The Inspector Lynley Mysteries.
