The Padres added him to their 40-man roster after the season.


Olivares played 127 games with the Amarillo Sod Poodles in 2019, slashing.283/.349/.453 with 18 home runs, 77 RBIs, and 35 stolen bases.

On July 25, 2020, Olivares made his main league debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks, hitting a double in three at-bats.

The Padres traded Olivares and a later-named player to the Kansas City Royals on August 29, 2020, in exchange f.or bullpen pitcher Trevor Rosenthal. Olivares batted.274 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 18 games with the 2020 Kansas City Royals.
