Eric John Hosmer (born October 24, 1989) is a Major League Baseball first baseman for the San Diego Padres. From 2011 to 2017, he was a member of the Kansas City Royals.

Scouts regarded Hosmer, a highly touted talent out of American Heritage High School in Florida, as a “left-handed hitter with raw power.”

In the 2008 MLB draft, the Royals selected him with the third overall choice, and he received a $6 million signing bonus. He progressed through Minor League Baseball before making his Major League Baseball debut in 2011.



After hitting.293 with 19 home runs in 128 games, he finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting in 2011. Hosmer won three Gold Glove Awards in a row from 2013 to 2015, as well as the Silver Slugger Award in 2017.

He was a member of the 2015 World Series champions and was the MVP of the 2016 MLB All-Star Game. Hosmer became a free agent after the 2017 season and signed an eight-year contract with the San Diego Padres.
