Gary Sánchez is a Dominican professional baseball catcher with the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball. He was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

In 2015, he made his Major League Baseball debut with the New York Yankees. The American League’s Rookie of the Month and Player of the Month honors were bestowed upon him in the month of August 2016.

Sánchez made a splash on the baseball scene in 2016 with a record-breaking rookie debut, ranking second in the Rookie of the Year vote despite only appearing in 53 games that season. In 2017, he was selected as an All-Star as well as a Silver Slugger.



As of this writing, Sánchez holds the record for the quickest catcher in Major League Baseball history to reach the century mark with 100 home runs.

Sánchez grew up in the Dominican Republic’s La Victoria neighborhood. He and his three brothers and one sister were raised by their grandmother Agustina Pena and their mother Orquidia Herrera after his parents split when he was a child.

They also visited their father on a regular basis, which he appreciated. One of his brothers, Miguel Sánchez, was a member of the Seattle Mariners, where he played baseball.

Yes. Gary has been with the New York Yankees since 2015. In July 2009, Sánchez was signed by the Yankees as an international free agent but made his debut for the Yankees in 2015.
