German Marquez is a Venezuelan professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He won a Silver Slugger Award in 2018.

As an international free agent, Márquez signed with the Tampa Bay Rays in July of 2011. After the 2015 season, the Rays added him to their 40-man roster.

Corey Dickerson and Kevin Padlo were exchanged for Márquez and Jake McGee on January 28, 2016. On September 6, 2016, Marquez was promoted to the big leagues.

Marquez had an 11-7 record in his first full season in 2017, pitching 162 innings (29 starts) and recording 147 strikeouts (8.17 K/9), good for a 4.39 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP.

He threw 53.2 percent of his pitches in the strike zone, the best rate among major league pitchers. This year’s National League Rookie of the Year runner-up was him.

For the first time in his professional career, Márquez smashed his first career home run in a 19-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 11, 2018. Márquez became the first pitcher since Mike LaCoss in 1986 to hit a home run off a position player.
