Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan until his death was the president of the United Arab Emirates(UAE). He has been the president since 2004. Sheikh Khalifa took over as the UAE’s second president in November 2004, succeeding his father as the 16th ruler of Abu Dhabi.

This means that, under the constitution, Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the current ruler of Dubai, would act as interim president until the federal council which groups the rulers of the seven emirates meets within 30 days to elect a new president.
