According to USA TODAY’s coaching salary database, New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton is making $9,012,917 in total pay this year and has a $17,150,000 buyout. The total pay ranks second in the country, behind that of the head coach of University of Alabama Nick Saban.

WHO IS SEAN PAYTON

Born December 29, 1963, in San Mateo, California, United States, Sean Payton is an American Football coach, precisely the head coach of the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League.

 

His coaching career began as an offensive assistant for San Diego State University with some job opportunities as assistant coaching positions on college and NFL teams. He has always been known for his offensive prowess.

He was named as the tenth full-time coach in Saints history in 2006. Scored more points of about 2804 and gained more yards of 40154 than any other team in a coach’s 100 games played in National Football League history. He was the second coach to have had a long period of stay in NFL history.



Payton in 2006, won the AP NFL Coach of the year award. The Saints also under Payton’s leadership won their first Super Bowl Championship. Through his efforts, Payton has guided the team to three NFC Championship games in recent years and nine play-offs with an amount of seven divisional titles, making him the most successful coach in the Saints’ history.

In 2012 April he was suspended as a result of his alleged involvement in a bounty scandal. But was reinstated in January 2013.
