Hudson Potts Prospect Ranking

According to Baseball America, Hudson Potts is the No. 24 prospect in the Red Sox organizational system.

Hudson  Potts was somewhat of a surprise first-round pick for the Padres in 2016, taking 24th overall out of high school and signing an under slot deal.

San Diego obviously loved him as a talent, and he made them look good early on in his career by holding his own in Rookie Ball and short-season A-Ball.

Despite just having graduated from high school a year before, he fared well enough that season to be promoted to full-season Low-A for his first complete professional season.

As an 18-year-old in full-season baseball, he held his own once again, not quite dominating but putting up league-average numbers.

But it was the following season that really put Potts on the map. For the 2018 season, the then-19-year-old was promoted to High-A and would have a breakout season.

Hudson Potts thrived despite the league’s hitter-friendly conditions, playing in the hitter-friendly Cal League. During that entire season, the right-handed batter hit .281/.350/.498 with a 126 wRC+.

It was good enough to earn him a late-season promotion to Double-A, where he would struggle, but the season as a whole was exciting.
