Imee Marcos, real name Maria Imelda Josefa Remedios “Imee” Romualdez Marcos happens to be a Filipina politician. She is also the current Senator and has been in that position since 2019.
Imee was born in Mandaluyong in the Philippines. She is the first child of the former late president, Ferdinand Marcos and former first lady Imelda Marcos. Her parents exercised autocratic rule over the Philippines from December 1965 to February 1986.
When Imee was 18 years old, she took part in various political roles in the Martial Law administration, first, as chairperson of the Kabataang Barangay and second, as an assemblyman to the Batasang Pambansa. Imee attended Princeton University, where she studied courses in religion and politics.
Due to her parent’s autocratic ruling, her studies at Princeton sparked a lot of controversies as other students protested against her admission because they felt her presence at the university was a potential threat to students who opposed the Marcos regime.
In the 2019 elections, her educational background raised a lot of questions as it was revealed that, during her parents’ dictatorship, she falsely claimed to have attended some schools and also deceived the public that she graduated as “Cum Laude” and “class valedictorian”.
