Hendrik Groot was known to be a professional Dutch footballer who played in the positions of forward and attacking midfielder. Groot was born on April 22, 1938, in Zaandijk in the Netherlands. He died at the age of 84 on Wednesday, May 11 2022 in a care home in Zaandam.
Groot was raised in his birth town, Zaandijk where he played football at the local football club ZVV Zaandijk. When he was 17 years old, he made it to the first team and scored several goals there. He was soon signed by the Stormvogels club where he played football as a semi-pro.
He had a younger brother called Cees who was also involved in the deal with the Stormvogels club and so they both played at the club. Groot and his brother were both transferred in 1959 to Ajax club. Groot made his professional debut in August 1959 for Ajax when they played against NAC Breda.
The day Groot made his debut, he was the one who scored all the goals for Ajax. A season later after this, he set a record with Ajax by scoring 41 goals in the 1960 and 1961 football competitions.
