In August 2014, Taylor signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He pitched 9+13 innings while giving no earned runs in three games in the Gulf Coast League.

In July of 2015, Taylor was sent to the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Taylor made 24 appearances (all starts) with two Class A teams in 2015, posting a 3.96 ERA and an 8–8 record.

The Boston Red Sox acquired Taylor as the player to be named later in a trade for Deven Marrero in May 2018.

He was with the Class A Advanced Visalia Rawhide at the time; the Red Sox assigned him to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, and he was promoted to the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox in September.
