While playing third base, he appeared in seven games. On June 6, after Jedd Gyorko was placed on the injured list due to plantar fasciitis, he was called up and started at second base in his place.

When the Padres picked up Irving Fal on waivers, they sent Peterson back to Triple-A.

In 2014, he appeared in two more games for the Padres, but he was not included in the team’s September expansion. Throughout the course of the season, his at-bats were limited to just 6 of 53.

Peterson was one of seven Padres selected to play in the Arizona Fall League when manager Bud Black stated a wish for Peterson to obtain some outfield experience.
