James Byron Casey is the tight ends coach for the Cincinnati Bengals and a former American football tight end and fullback.

He was picked in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans, and he has also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Denver Broncos.

He attended Rice University and Azle High School, where he participated in baseball and football.

Casey’s mother died after a fire destroyed their home when he was 16 years old. Only his backpack and the clothing he was wearing remained.

Citizens of Azle, Texas, helped him by providing clothing, lodging, and money to let him continue his education and sports career.

He lived with his older sister for a time, with the family of his future wife, and with the trainer at Azle High School.

On June 7, 2003, Casey was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball Draft.

He was a member of the Chicago White Sox organization for three seasons before resigning in 2006 to pursue a football career in the NFL.

Casey is married to Kylie, his high school sweetheart, and they have two sons.
