Springs went to high school in Belmont, North Carolina, at South Point High School. To earn a degree in management, he attended Appalachian State University and played college baseball for the Mountaineers from 2012 to 2015.

Springs divided his first season between the Spokane Indians and the Hickory Crawdads after signing. In 31 innings, he had a combined 2–2 record with a 2.61 ERA.

He divided the 2016 season between two levels, going 1–1 with a 1.16 ERA in 18 games with the Hickory Crawdads and 2–2 with a 5.36 ERA in 13 games (9 starts) with the High Desert Mavericks.

For the Down East Wood Ducks, Springs had a disappointing 2017 season, going 2–8 with an earned run average of 3.69 and 146 strikeouts in 112+13 innings pitched across 31 games (17 starts).

A 3–2 record and a 4.82 ERA in 37+13 innings for the Frisco RoughRiders in the Texas League started Springs’ 2018 season off on a positive note in the league.
