American R&B/soul songwriter and vocalist, Jesse Powell has died. He was born in the United States on September 12, 1971 in Gary, Indiana, and passed away in his home in Los Angeles, California, on September 13, 2022, at the age of 51. In 1993, Louil Silas Jr. saw him perform at a local talent show. Louil Silas signed him to his Silas Records label after seeing him perform.

He completed work on his debut record three years later. Powell, Sam Salter, and Laney Stewart wrote “All I Need,” his debut single, which was made public in March 1996. It had average playing on BET and Urban stations, reaching its R&B chart apex at No. 32. Later on in the same year, a second single, a cover of the timeless “Gloria,” was released.

The initial single, “I Wasn’t with It,” which was released in 1998 and became his first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, was then the start of work on his second album. Sales of his second album increased consistently, and the RIAA eventually awarded it gold certification. Later on in the same year, work began on his third album and a third single, “‘Bout It, ‘Bout It.”

The singles “By the Way” and “Touching It Tonight” helped his fourth studio album, which was released in 2003, reach its highest point on the Billboard R&B list, where it peaked at No. 85. Prior to his departure from the music business, the record was his final offering.
