The Reds traded Downs, along with Homer Bailey and Josiah Gray, to the Los Angeles Dodgers on December 21, 2018, for Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, Alex Wood, Kyle Farmer, and cash considerations.

He started the season with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and was named to the California League’s mid-season and post-season all-star teams.

For Rancho Cucamonga, he appeared in 107 games, hitting. 269 hits, 19 home runs, and 75 runs batted in.
