Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is a well-known former player and manager in the Professional Football League. He most recently managed the club, Burton Albion which competes in League One.



Although he was born in Suriname, he and his family relocated to the city of Zaandam in the Netherlands. It was there that his interest in football started ,first as a goalkeeper, then as a right winger, and ultimately as a forward.

After beginning his senior career with Telstar and AZ Alkmaar, he moved on to play for Campomaiorense in Portugal in August 1995. This marked his departure from the Netherlands.

The following season, he signed with Boavista, and in 1997, he helped the club win the Taca de Portugal championship. Prior to the 1997–98 season, he was acquired by English club Leeds United for a sum of £2 million.

During that time, he established himself as a prolific goal scorer and went on to win the 1999 Premier League Golden Boot award.

In the same year, he was transferred to the Spanish team Atlético Madrid for the sum of ten million pounds, helping the club advance all the way to the championship game of the Copa del Rey despite being demoted from La Liga.
