In the Philippines, entrepreneur Jorge León “Nene” Araneta is well-known. The Araneta Group of Companies, whose activities include the development of real estate, lodging and hospitality, eating and food service, entertainment and leisure, and beauty and philanthropy, is headed by him.

He attended De La Salle University in Manila after earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) from the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he was a member of the Upsilon Sigma Phi fraternity. After graduating from college, he spent his teenage years working closely with his father. He then steadily rose through the ranks of the family business until, in 1970, when his father retired, he took over the management of the Araneta Group and its associated businesses.

The family firm was further developed under his direction to encompass real estate, farming, investments, and food and dining services. As a result, the nation saw the construction of many firsts, including the Fiesta Carnival in 1971, the Ali Mall in 1976, the first indoor enclosed mall in the country, and numerous commercial structures during the 1980s.
