Jose Barrero is a Cuban professional baseball shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was known as Jose García before changing his name to José Barrero in 2021.

Barrero was a member of the Cuban national baseball team that competed in the U-18 Baseball World Cup in 2015, and he also played for the Industriales in the Cuban National Series.

In June of 2017, he became a member of the Cincinnati Reds organization after signing as an international free agent. In 2018, Barrero made his debut in the professional ranks while playing for the Dayton Dragons.



He began the 2019 season with the Daytona Tortugas and continued his baseball career in the Arizona Fall League after the season concluded. The Reds extended an invitation to him to participate in their Spring Training in 2020.

Barrero debuted in Major League Baseball for the first time on August 27, 2020, when the Milwaukee Brewers were the opponent.

In 24 games played for Cincinnati in 2020, he had a batting average of.194 with no home runs and 2 runs batted in, and he began the 2021 season with the Chattanooga Lookouts.
