Kevin was born in Hinsdale, Illinois, and grew up there. In addition to his supporting father, Jeff Plawecki, he was raised by his loving mother, Lynne Plawecki.
He went to Westfield High School in Westfield, Indiana, and was a member of the baseball team. In his senior year, he was selected as an honorable mention All-State Class 4A catcher.
After his senior year of high school, he was not taken in the MLB draft. He enrolled at Purdue University, where he played collegiate baseball for the Purdue Boilermakers.
The Red Sox signed Plawecki to a one-year, $900,000 deal on January 3, 2020. Plawecki batted.342 with one home run and 17 RBIs in 23 games with the 2020 Red Sox.
Plawecki and the Red Sox agreed to a one-year contract for the 2021 season in early December 2020.

In November 2015, Plawecki married his wife, Tayler. They have two kids together. Plawecki is a devout follower of Christ.
