Lance McCullers is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). The Astros selected McCullers in the first round of the 2012 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut in 2015 and was an All-Star in 2017.
At the start of the 2017 season, the Astros placed McCullers in the starting rotation. He threw 22 scoreless innings from May 6–23, which was the longest streak among Astros pitchers since Roy Oswalt threw 32 innings from August 27–September 11, 2008, while he was with the team.
A four-game streak of no earned runs allowed by McCullers, the first for the Astros since Nolan Ryan in 1984, was also a record for that span.
As a result, McCullers earned his first-ever AL Pitcher of the Month honors in May. Over the course of six starts, he compiled a perfect 4–0 record.
