Lee Zeldin is an American attorney, politician, and officer in the United States Army Reserve. A Republican, he has represented New York’s 1st congressional district in the United States House of Representatives since 2015.
He is the representative for the eastern two-thirds of Suffolk County, which includes the majority of Smithtown, all of Brookhaven, Riverhead, Southold, Southampton, East Hampton, and Shelter Island, as well as a piece of Islip. Zeldin was elected to represent the 3rd Senate District in the New York State Senate in 2011 and served in that capacity until 2014.
During the time when Donald Trump was president, Zeldin was an unwavering supporter of Trump. During Trump’s first impeachment hearings in relation to the Trump–Ukraine affair, he made a point of prominently defending the president.
After Trump was defeated in the presidential election of 2020 and began spreading baseless allegations of voter fraud, Zeldin cast his vote against certifying the electoral votes of Arizona and Pennsylvania.
In April of 2021, Zeldin made public his intention to run for the office of governor of New York in the following year, 2022.
He emerged victorious from the Republican primary for governor, when he faced off against three other candidates and is now the candidate of both the Republican Party and the Conservative Party.

Lee Zeldin, a member of the United States House of Representatives, is married to Diana Gidish, and the couple has been blessed with two daughters whom they have called Arianna and Mikayla Zeldin.
