Manuel Margot Gomez, a Dominican professional baseball center fielder for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball, was born in the San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic. He was previously with the San Diego Padres.

Margot was signed as an international free agent from the Dominican Prospect League by the Boston Red Sox in July 2011, for a rumored bonus of $800,000.



In the 2012 season, he began his professional career with the Rookie Level Dominican Summer League Red Sox at the age of 17.

Margot received Red Sox Minor League Latin Program Player of the Year honors in his professional debut, batting.285/.382/.423 with 38 stolen bases in just 68 games, earning him a position on the DSL All-Star team.

In the DSL, he was regarded as a patient batter who walked more than he struck out (36-to-25 in 260 at-bats).

In 2013, Margot moved up two levels to the Lowell Spinners, where he was the youngest regular in the New York–Penn League’s Short-Season A division.

Following his impressive debut, Margot hit safely in 12 of his first 15 games with Lowell, posting a.254/.343/.307 slash line through July 24, when he was sidelined by a hamstring ailment.
