Meet Ernst Walder Boyfriend Tony Warren

Ernst Walder’s birthday is November 17th, and he was born in Salzburg, Austria, in 1927. As an actor, he is most remembered for his roles in Coronation Street (1960), Castle Haven (1969), and The Fourth Arm (1983).



During the 1960s, he was Tony Warren, the founder of Coronation Street (1960),’s partner for a number of years.

His on-screen wife Anne Cunningham (Weatherfield’s Linda Cheveski) would occasionally help out on the weekends at the antiques stand that he owned and operated on Notting Hill’s Portobello Road for a period of time.



Following his career in acting, he relocated to his birthplace in Austria.


He is one of just five members of the original cast of Coronation Street who are still alive today. The others are William Roache, Anne Cunningham, Alan Rothwell, and Philip Lowrie (1960).

Anthony McVay Simpson, MBE was an English television screenwriter and actor who was most known for developing the ITV soap opera Coronation Street. He was born on July 8, 1936, and passed away on March 1, 2016.



He published his works under the pen name Tony Warren.  He also developed several television plays and is the author of many novels that have received high praise.
