Michael Anthony Taylor is an American professional baseball center fielder for the Major League Baseball’s Kansas City Royals.

The Washington Nationals selected Taylor in the sixth round of the 2009 MLB draft, and he made his MLB debut in 2014.



Taylor was drafted as a shortstop out of Westminster Academy in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft by the Washington Nationals with their sixth-round choice.

He turned down a scholarship offer from the University of North Florida to join the Nationals.

Taylor did not make his minor league debut in 2009, but he was a valuable infielder for the Gulf Coast League Nationals in 2010, making 21 errors while playing shortstop, second base, and third base.

After a hand injury slowed his progress in the infield in his first year in the Nationals’ minor league organization, Taylor was advised at the start of fall instructional league play in 2010 that he would be switching positions from shortstop to center fielder.

Taylor began his professional career as an outfielder with the Class A Hagerstown Suns in 2011, and he followed that trend with the Class A-Advanced Potomac Nationals in 2012 and 2013.

His offensive production also increased, as he batted. In 2013, he hit .263 batters with 10 home runs in 133 games for the Potomac Nationals, earning him Player of the Year accolades before moving to Puerto Rico to play with the Indios de Mayaguez in winter baseball.
