Nicholas John Carlo Pivetta is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Boston Red Sox (MLB).



Pivetta was drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Washington Nationals. During the 2015 season, he was dealt with by the Philadelphia Phillies, where he made his MLB debut in 2017 and remained until 2020.

He was born in Victoria, British Columbia, on February 14, 1993. He is 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 m) tall and weighs 220 pounds (100 kg).



He is right-handed and throws and bats. From 2009 to 2012, he was a part of the Canadian Junior National Team, attending Lambrick Park Secondary School in Saanich, British Columbia.


He received his collegiate education at New Mexico Junior College, where he was a baseball scholarship player for the Thunderbirds and graduated in 2013.

He was a member of the Victoria Eagles of the British Columbia Premier Baseball League’s youth division and the Victoria HarbourCats of the West Coast League’s collegiate summer division.

Pivetta was drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Washington Nationals out of New Mexico Junior College.

The Nationals traded Pivetta to the Philadelphia Phillies for Jonathan Papelbon on July 28, 2015. In exchange for Brandon Workman, Heath Hembree, and cash, he moved to the Boston Red Sox, along with Connor Seabold.
