Patrick Leahy is an American politician and attorney who is the senior United States senator from Vermont and serves as the president pro tempore of the United States Senate.

A Democrat from Vermont since 1974, Patrick Leahy is the only one in the Senate who represents the Green Mountain State in the upper chamber. He was the youngest-ever senator from Vermont when he was elected at the age of 34.

While growing up, Leahy had a front-row seat to all of Vermont’s political action. Saint Michael’s College in Colchester (1961) and Georgetown University Law Center (1962) are both where he earned his undergraduate and law degrees (1964).

After eight years as Chittenden County’s State’s Attorney, he received national notoriety for his work in law enforcement and was named one of only three excellent prosecutors in the United States of America in 1974.

Senator Leahy now serves as Senate President Pro Tempore. Legislation Committee Chairman: Senator Leahy, D-Vt. He sits on both the Senate Judiciary and Senate Agriculture committees, where he is the most senior member.

Pomerleau is a member of the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s board of directors and a registered nurse. In 1962, she tied the knot with Leahy, with whom she had three children: Mark, Alicia, and Kevin.

The longest-serving senator in the United States is stepping down from office. It has been announced that Senator Patrick Leahy will not seek a ninth term in the United States Senate next year.

It’s remarkable for a member of Vermont’s congressional delegation to stand aside after serving since 1974. Henry Epp of Vermont Public Radio has more.

According to his spokesman, Vermont’s U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy underwent surgery on his broken hip on Thursday.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the Democrat, who was residing in McLean, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday night after suffering a stroke. They decided the best course of action would be to go through with the procedure to repair the hip immediately.

“Comfortably recovering” after successful surgery, according to Leahy spokesperson David Carle’s statement on Thursday evening.
