Penny Marshall, actual name Carole Penny Marshall, was a well-known American actress, director, and producer. Her portrayal of Laverne DeFazio on the television sitcom Laverne & Shirley, for which she was best known, earned her three nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy.

Penny was born in the United States on October 15, 1943, in The Bronx, New York. She died on December 17, 2018, in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California, at the age of 75. The three leading causes of death were a cardiopulmonary failure, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, and type 1 diabetes.

Penny made her directing debut in 1986 with Jumpin’ Jack Flash. She directed Big in 1988 as well. Big created box office history by becoming the first film directed by a woman to surpass $100 million in the United States. She got numerous accolades for the previous movies she directed. Her 1990 film Awakenings was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.



She directed several movies, including A League of Their Own in 1992, Renaissance Man in 1994, The Preacher’s Wife in 1996, Riding in Cars with Boys in 2001, Cinderella Man, and Bewitched in 2005. Penny not only directed movies but also TV show episodes.

Penny Marshall has two siblings, a brother called Garry Marshall and a sister called Ronny Hallin. Garry was an Actor and director from the United States. Before adopting Neil Simon’s 1965 play The Odd Couple for television in 1970, he began his career in the 1960s by penning scripts for The Lucy Show and The Dick Van Dyke Show. 

Garry passed away on July 19, 2016, in Burbank, California, after being born on November 13, 1934, in The Bronx, New York.

Ronny on the other hand is an American actress and television producer. Her work on the television series Step by Step, Mork & Mindy, and Happy Days is what made her most well-known. She was born in New York, in the United States, on January 2, 1938.
