Penelope Mary Mordaunt FRSA, a politician from the United Kingdom, has been the minister of state for trade policy since 2021. She has represented Portsmouth North as a Member of Parliament (MP) since 2010 and is a Conservative.

From 2017 to 2019, she was Theresa May’s Secretary of State for International Development. From May to July 2019, she was Theresa May’s Secretary of State for Defense.

Prior to entering the PR field, Mordaunt studied philosophy at the University of Reading. She worked for George W. Bush’s presidential campaigns in 2000 and 2004 as well as held positions within the Conservative Party under John Major and William Hague.



In May 2010, Mordaunt won a seat in the House of Commons. She held the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Decentralization from 2014 to 2015 under David Cameron’s coalition government.

After the 2015 general election, Cameron promoted her to Minister of State for the Armed Forces, the first woman to hold the post. Mordaunt supported Brexit in the 2016 referendum on EU membership.
