Robert John Hanrahan was an American television journalist who once reported for WHP-TV, the CBS affiliate in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. After a six-month rehabilitation following a severe heart attack, he announced his retirement on February 7, 2021.
Before joining WHP, he co-anchored newscasts with Maggie Rodriguez for four years at WFOR-TV, a CBS-owned station in Miami, Florida.
Hanrahan was an anchor for New York City’s WABC-TV between 1996 and 2003. He worked alongside Nancy Loo as a co-anchor for the station’s morning and midday Eyewitness News broadcasts.
Hanrahan was elevated to replace Greg Hurst as Roz Abrams’ co-anchor on the 5:00 p.m. newscast on WABC by the end of 1997 and remained in that position for the following several years.
During this time, he participated in a second makeover of the morning program; he and Lori Stokes were picked to replace Loo and David Ushery as morning anchors, but Hanrahan did not participate in the noon show.
Towards the end of his tenure at WABC, the station underwent an additional lineup change, and he was replaced by Diana Williams on the early evening newscasts. Until his contract expired, Hanrahan shifted to anchoring just on weekends.
Prior to joining WABC, Hanrahan worked at WSVN-TV in Miami. He began his news career at KODE-TV in Joplin, Missouri, before working at WHTM-TV in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
