Professional golfer Rory McIlroy MBE is from Northern Ireland and plays on both the European and PGA Tours. His four major championships are the 2011 U.S. Open, the 2012 PGA, the 2014 Open, and the 2014 PGA Championships.
He is one of just three golfers to win four majors before the age of 25: Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. He has twice been nominated RTÉ Sports Person of the Year for his individual and team accomplishments.
His parents, Gerry McDonald and Rosie McDonald gave birth to Rory McIlroy on May 4, 1989, in Holywood, County Down. He was coached by his father when he was just a few years old. His first preference was a golf instruction film made by champion Nick Faldo.
