The Rays paid Stanek a signing bonus of $1,758,300. Because of an offseason surgery on his right acetabular labrum in the 2013–14 offseason and an absence from the start of the 2014 season, this pitcher never pitched professionally again.

On May 8, 2014, he made his debut in the Class A Midwest League with the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Despite a 3–4 record and 3.63 ERA with Bowling Green, the Rays promoted Stanek to the Class A-Advanced Florida State League’s Charlotte Stone Crabs on July 1.
